Co-founder of 109 architectes, Youssef Mallat was central to developing the firm’s project portfolio, reputation, and consultant network. He drives 109 architectes’ growth in the Arab countries, managing projects both locally and abroad. Additionally, Youssef’s responsibilities run the spectrum of the firm’s activities, from design to design-development and site supervision.
Youssef was Partner in Charge of several projects including Le Plan du Lion project, where he established a state-of-the-art wood construction process in coordination with Swiss engineers and German suppliers. This chain of construction was introduced to Lebanon by 109 architectes, and has since been adopted by several local firms. He also manages several teams of Architects on multiple projects of different scales, ranging from touristic resorts to residential and mixed-use buildings in urban settings.
Prior to founding 109 architectes in 2002, Youssef was part of a private practice in Beirut. His work included design and project management of residential buildings, private residences, and offices.
From 1994 to 1996, he was an architect at Architecture Studio, Paris. Youssef contributed to the Jean Monet University in St. Etienne, France and the European Parliament in Strasburg. While at Architecture Studio, he gained experience in dealing with large-scale projects and prestigious multinational companies, which would prove essential at 109 architectes.
Youssef holds a DESS in Architecture from ALBA, Beirut (1993) an MBA from ESCP-EAP, Paris and Beirut (1999). He also attended two postgraduate programs at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, titled Daylight Buildings and Master Planning: Moving Toward a Sustainable City.
