This first prize competition winner is the inaugural project on a remote site, built as a destination to boost the area.
Making the first mark on a future mini-metropolis, the firm designed the pool with a key element of ancient Algerian cities in mind: the souks. Several volumes with independent functions converge under a single mesh roof, connected by pedestrian paths. An ornate, Kasbah-style entrance leads to various volumes, including locker rooms, administrative offices, and an Olympic-size swimming pool at the end of the axis. A sense of discovery emerges as new spaces are revealed and light dances across the pool as it filters through the mesh covering.
The structure is laid out on its enormous plot to accommodate future expansion.
